This swamp is located in the Outer Coastal Plain. The Okefenokee swamp is a marshland that stretches for many miles on the Florida border. The Okefenokee swamp covers over 7000 square miles. Cypress and Pine trees are the main foliage located in this region. The Okefenokee water is highly acidic due to the tannin acid that is released from the decaying plants. This acid makes the water the color of tea and as acidic as a soda! Cypress swamps, winding water ways, and floating peat mats make up the Okefenokee swamp. Many reptiles such as alligators, lizards and snakes are found in this area. There are also many types of birds such as herons, egrets and cranes to name a few. The area is also a habitat for Florida Black Bears.
