The Georgia Fall Line is the separation of the Coastal Plain Region and the Piedmont Region. The Fall Line was once the location of the Continental Shelf of Georgia. Over millions of years, the Atlantic Ocean covered less land, exposing the Coastal Plain Region. The reason for the name Fall Line is because the border between the Coastal Plain and the Piedmont contains a large drop that represents the edge of the two regions.
