33b -evaluate the Trustee Period of Georgia’s colonial history emphasizing the role of Salzburgers, Highland Scots, malcontents, and Spanish threat from Florida
Malcontents |
Salzburgers |
Highland Scots |
The Malcontents were the first settlers in Georgia. This was their nickname because Oglethorpe thought of them as lazy people. The Malcontents never did their work and always complained to Oglethorpe about the hardships. He was the only one receiving these complaints because none of the other Trustees ever came to Georgia. He soon brought the Salzburgers to show a good example to the Malcontents.

The Salburgers were the first to come to Georgia after the original settlers. The Salzburgers were from Germany, but were invited to come to Georgia by Oglethorpe. The Salzburgers were trying to escape prosecution, because they were Protestant Christians. They settled in a town called Ebeneezer, and soon after moved to New Ebeneezer. These people were brought to Georgia to help show a good example of hard work.

The Highland Scots were from Scotland. These people were brought to Georgia because of their amazing fighting ability. They were well trained warriors, and were brought to help protect South Carolina from Spanish Threats. They moved into the city of Darien, and were a great help in the protection of South Carolina.

Spanish La Florida was discovered by Juan Ponce De Leon. He was an explorer from Spain, who found and claimed La Florida, meaning "the flowers". Settlements were set up, but they threatened to take Britain's land, which was above La Florida. King George III allowed Oglethorpe and twenty trustees to create a buffer colony, to slow down the Spanish if they were to attack. South Carolina contained many riches, that the British wanted to protect, and so they created Georgia.
