European Settlement
The three countries that were most interested in European Exploration and Settlement were Spain, France and Britain. They were interested in expanding their empires. This is called colonization. They sent explorers to search for new lands and claim it for their country. Spain was able to colonize most of America, while Britain and France colonized the east coast of America and parts of Canada. They were interested in the three G's, as explained in the European Contact page.
The three G's helped guide and encourage countries to expand their empires. Two of Spain's most important explorers were Hernando De Soto and Pedro Menendez. France and Britain were not able to claim as much land because they were more focused on Africa. These three countries colonized America and were able to set up many colonies and created a new beginning in North America.
