The Chattahoochee River is very important to Georgia's environment. This river starts at the Blue Ridge Mountains, and flows downstream to the mouth which is Apalachicola River. The river is approximately 430 miles long and it is the largest part of the ACF ( Appalachicola- Chattahoochee- Flint) drainage basin. The word Chattahoochee comes from a Muskogee word meaning "rocks marked", which could be referring to the granite found along the northeast to southeast region of the river.
